Volunteers for Peace Building Walkways, Shelters and Trellises
A series of five summer work camps through began this past
Monday at Vietnam
Friendship Village. International and Vietnamese young people
have joined this volunteer effort to help the Organic Gardening Project and Friendship Village in general.
The current work camp is comprised of seven
international and 15 Vietnamese volunteers. They are working every day at VFV,
hauling bricks and sand, to aid in the effort to build brick walkways through
the net house, gardens and orchards.

Over the
last two weeks, we welcomed a group of volunteers from Volunteers For
Peace (VFP) who came and did a lot of work for the project and for
Friendship Village. The group included young people from Korea, the
United States and Vietnam.
They thoroughly weeded the vegetable
garden, net house and orchards and helped us to harvest beans, carrots,
and leafy vegetables. They also lent their hand to catching
caterpillars in the cabbage patch.
In
addition, they spent two days moving sludge from the fish pond to the
morning glory/Vietnam apple garden and planted more than twenty longan
trees which they donated in the orchard and around the fish pond.
